About Emiko

Leather pieces prepared for bespoke shoemaking

My career in bespoke shoemaking began in 1997, while studying at Cordwainers College in London.

I started an apprenticeship at Foster & Son in London’s West End, where I trained under master lastmaker and shoemaker Terry Moore. Under his guidance, I learned the traditional skills of lastmaking, pattern cutting and bespoke shoemaking, working alongside him for many years.

Terry began his own career as a lastmaker at Peal & Co. in the 1950s. The knowledge and techniques he passed on to me were accompanied by many of his traditional shoemaking and lastmaking tools. Among them is his lastmaking bench, which dates back to his time at Peal & Co. These tools remain in use in my workshop today.

Following Terry’s retirement, I remained at Foster & Son, where I was entrusted with running the workshop and carrying forward the traditional methods he had passed on to me.

In 2020, I began working independently as a bespoke shoemaker. Today, I continue to make each pair individually, using the traditional hand methods that have shaped my work since I first entered the trade in 1997.
